Riderwood Priority List Members Plan with Confidence

January 29, 2025

When exploring your senior living options, it's important to find the right residence in a community that will best support your goals for retirement.

Thanks to their experience on the Priority List at Riderwood, an Erickson Senior Living community in Silver Spring, Md., Tony and Sue Kaminski found a large home in a vibrant, active environment--their recipe for a fulfilling retirement.

"The Priority List offered so many advantages," says Tony. "Being on the Priority List not only held our place in line for the home we wanted, but it provided opportunities to come to events that helped us decide that Riderwood was the right community. It also introduced us to many activities and the wonderful residents who live here."

Spending time wisely

After joining the Priority List, Tony and Sue began receiving invitations to exclusive social and informational events happening on campus, including an activities fair showcasing Riderwood's dozens of clubs and activities.

"I really enjoyed the activities open house," says Tony. "We went from table to table with other prospective residents. We even won a raffle gift--four pickleball paddles and a ball!"

The annual "Parade of Homes" was especially helpful, as the couple was determined to find the perfect residence for them early on.

"We took our time deciding which home we wanted. It's an important decision," says Tony. "We found the opportunities to tour homes to be very helpful."

The Kaminskis also shared the list of things they were looking for in their new home with the Riderwood sales team.

"We wanted space for a sewing room," says Sue. "I'm a quilter and own a longarm machine. It is ten feet long, and it was mandatory that I find space for it."

In fact, the Kaminskis found their dream home at another Priority List event.

"Heather, on the sales team, knew that we were looking for a large home," says Tony. "While at the event, she mentioned that she really wanted to show us a combo apartment, made from two smaller homes. It turned out to be a really great option for us, and the home we chose."

Living the life

The Kaminskis also took advantage of a Live the Life stay--a multiday, overnight experience in a furnished residence that allows Priority List members to sample the amenities, dine at on-campus restaurants, and chat with current residents.

"We walked around campus enjoying the grounds--something we hadn't done on our other visits because our attention was focused on choosing a home," says Sue. "We also attended an Art Council event showcasing resident artwork and got the chance to meet some of the artists. Tony played with the pickleball group and I met with the quilters. We also went to Mass on campus."

"We really appreciated our dinners with current residents. We had a lot of fun," says Tony. "We learned about the Treasure Chest and the photography club. Everyone was friendly and welcoming."

A smooth move

In June 2024, with the help of Erickson Realty and Moving Services--another Priority List perk--the couple moved to their new home at Riderwood from nearby Laurel, Md.

"Throughout the process, everyone was so helpful," says Sue. "We worked with Riderwood's preferred moving company, Town and Country, who emptied our house and moved it all in, even unpacking the kitchen for me!"

In the few months since their move, the Kaminskis have found that life at Riderwood exceeds their expectations.

"Everyone is so welcoming and nice," says Tony. "We invite friends and former neighbors to Riderwood to visit, and they are always impressed."

Risk-free research

Whether you just started your research or are already envisioning living at Riderwood, joining the Priority List is the way to go.

"Our time on the Priority List was very helpful. We had the time, and the support, to find the home that is perfect for us," says Sue. "We would advise anyone considering a move to join. There is really nothing to lose and so much to gain."

"Becoming a member is risk free," agrees Sales Director Josh Runkles. "The onetime $1,000 deposit gets applied to the entrance deposit for your residence or will be fully refunded, if you ultimately decide to move somewhere else. If you're interested in Riderwood, this is your sign to join!"
