Avery Point recruitment

Six years ago, Alyssa Himes was working in property management in Baltimore. But she was ready for a big change.

Alyssa made the move to a sales associate with Erickson Senior Living (ESL) at Oak Crest Village, in Parkville, Md. Not only did she receive the major shift she was looking for, but she’s also found opportunities and support that, at the start, she couldn’t have even imagined.

“The company is always growing, and the team members get so many options to move ahead!” says Alyssa.

In the three years she worked at Oak Crest, Alyssa was promoted from sales associate to the custom interiors coordinator.

“I was trained by the previous person, and I got to take free online classes in project management that Erickson provided as well,” says Alyssa.

While she enjoyed her work in Maryland, Alyssa decided to relocate to Virginia when Avery Point, the ESL community in Short Pump, was launching.

“I was ready to help open up a new Erickson community,” Alyssa recalls. “I wanted a new challenge.”

Although she started at Avery Point as a senior sales associate, Alyssa has already been promoted to a sales counselor.

With all the support she receives at Erickson, Alyssa knows she will continue to advance.

Working directly with prospective and new residents continues to be exciting for Alyssa.

“I love being able to help prospective residents and their families—then seeing their faces around the community,” says Alyssa. “It’s so gratifying.”

Alyssa also values ESL’s focus on its core brand promises to team members: financial stability, a vibrant working experience, a commitment to health and well-being, and assistance with achieving their goals.

In addition to remaining in contact with her mentor at Oak Crest, Alyssa has continued to take online classes.

“I touch base with my mentor every two months, and she’s given me a lot of advice on what has worked for her. It’s been really nice to have her and her support,” says Alyssa. “I’ve also met with human resources at ESL to get more leadership training. Through the intranet, I’ve been taking classes to get more experience on the leadership side in case I want to move up to another role.”

One way in which Alyssa has given back to other team members at Avery Point is through the Career Expo. This is where other team members learned about compelling ways to grow their careers within the ESL enterprise.

“Each department had its own table, and staff members from Avery Point could talk with various groups and learn about what we do. There are always opportunities to grow within the company,” she says. “I spoke with team members about where I started and how I got to where I am today. It was truly amazing!”

“Our goal is to provide our talented and diverse team members with a meaningful work experience that matches their interest and goals,” says ESL Chief Human Resources Officer Nicole Walker. “This is why we created the Internal Career Expo Series across the enterprise. As a growth company with a bright future, we strive to be an employer of choice by providing our team members with the resources to cultivate the career they personally desire at Erickson Senior Living.”

“That’s one of the things I love about the company—we’re always growing in different communities,” says Alyssa. “I will never leave Erickson. I love it here!”
