Devonshire Priority List Members Plan with Confidence

When Rob and Meg Shannon began researching retirement communities near their house in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., they were dedicated to the details.
"There were several factors that were important to us," says Rob. "We wanted to know what the community was like, how it worked, how it compared to other communities, and who would be our neighbors."
Answers to those questions were easy to find at Devonshire, the Erickson Senior Living community at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., thanks to the Priority List.
"Joining the Priority List is the best way to get to know our community," says Donna Schneider, sales director at Devonshire. "In addition to reserving a place in line for a future home, members also receive invitations to special events where they can tour available floor plans, work with planning and moving experts, and meet other prospective residents."
Spending time wisely
Upon joining the Priority List, the Shannons received invitations to members-only events, including monthly happy hours hosted by Devonshire's culinary team, a showcase of residences, a moving expo, and a "Next Step Luau."
"The showcase of homes was helpful in narrowing down our options," says Rob. "Seeing many different floor plans helped us come up with our criteria and priorities. It was also special to see the homes of current residents. We met some wonderful new people."
The couple also attended the moving expo, which featured a variety of moving professionals and services available to help make their future move as stress-free as possible.
"When you've lived in a house for a long time, you tend to stress over what you will do with all the stuff," notes Meg. "It was great to learn that there are people who will actually help you with that."
By attending Priority List events, the Shannons have met dozens of their future neighbors--one of their top priorities.
"That's one of my favorite parts," says Meg. "We recently attended a luau and sat with a bunch of folks all in the same boat as us. We talked about everything--from the communities we visited to why Devonshire is our choice."
Living the life
Perhaps the most influential factor in the couple's decision-making process was their Live the Life stay--an overnight experience in a furnished residence that allows Priority List members to sample the amenities, dine at on-campus restaurants, and chat with current residents.
"Our stay was fabulous," says Rob. "On the day we arrived, we enjoyed dinner with a charming couple. The next morning, we went down to the continental breakfast and met more wonderful people. Our favorite part was walking around campus, taking part in whatever activities we wanted. That really helped us get an idea of what a day would be like if we lived here."
And because all Devonshire community members enjoy membership at the world-renowned PGA National, the couple inquired about touring the newly refurbished clubhouse.
"Devonshire set it up for us and, remarkably, the chief executive took us around," recalls Rob. "We got to see the spa and restaurants. It's wonderful that we will get to use those facilities as well."
"Our stay really confirmed for us that moving to Devonshire was the right decision," says Meg.
Even after a Live the Life stay, Priority List members are encouraged to visit campus as often as they'd like to utilize the amenities and participate in activities.
"Once we joined the Priority List, we began receiving copies of the monthly activities calendar," says Rob. "We are really impressed with all the things planned to make our lives even better."
Reaping the rewards
The Shannons, currently preparing for their upcoming move, took advantage of their Priority List status once more by enlisting the help of Laurie Lovely, Devonshire's custom interiors coordinator and planning and moving consultant.
"Laurie is a gem to work with," says Meg. "She's been out to our house several times to take measurements and answer questions. It's a huge load off our backs."
"We definitely advise any prospective residents to join the Priority List," says Rob.
"I can't think of a reason not to. The Priority List provides not only time but numerous opportunities to learn more about the community and to experience what life will be like here."
He adds, "And should you decide that Devonshire is not for you, the deposit is refundable. There is no risk but so much to gain!"
