Devonshire at PGA National Provides Unmatched Resources for Professional Growth

At Devonshire, the Erickson Senior Living community at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., team members enjoy more than just a job. They also enjoy opportunities and support for achieving their individual career goals including further education, professional development, advancement, and a healthy work-life balance.
In support of these efforts, last year each Erickson Senior Living community hosted a Career Expo for current team members to meet department ambassadors, learn about current and upcoming career opportunities, map out a personal development path, and access skill-building opportunities to fuel professional growth.
“Our goal is to provide our talented and diverse team members with a meaningful work experience that matches their interests and goals,” said Nicole Walker, Chief Human Resources Officer for Erickson Senior Living. “This is why we created the 2024 Internal Career Expo Series across the enterprise. As a growth company with a bright future, we strive to be an employer of choice by providing our team members with the resources to cultivate the career they personally desire at Erickson Senior Living.”
Joining the Devonshire team in 2015, Stephanie Beam, began her Erickson Senior Living career as a housekeeping supervisor at Chatsworth, the community’s continuing care neighborhood.
“During my first few years, I grew in the position and became excited to see what else I could accomplish,” says Stephanie. “I attended a career fair where I learned about advancement opportunities from a manager I trusted.”
As a result, Stephanie applied for and was offered a new position as a facilities coordinator learning and excelling in her role for approximately two years.
“I really loved the position,” she says. “I discovered a passion I didn’t know I had. I also learned that I wanted more. I wanted to grow in my career. I talked with managers regarding what I needed to do and what I needed to learn.”
Working with her manager, Stephanie looked for ways to gain managerial experience. Using her housekeeping supervisor experience, Stephanie applied and was offered a management position in housekeeping.
“I learned so much from my manager, Yehyn,” she says. “She’s amazing and taught me a lot. I not only expanded my knowledge, but I also became more confident in my decision-making.”
After two years managing others, Stephanie felt ready to take on the role of re-occupancy manager.
“My manager helped give me the confidence I needed to take the next step in my career,” she says.
This past year, in an effort to help other Devonshire team members grow in their careers, Stephanie shared her story at the Career Fair.
“It was a wonderful experience,” she says. “Everyone was engaged and we had a blast. I received a lot of questions that I was happy to answer. People were excited about taking their own next steps.”
For Stephanie, with the full support of Erickson Senior Living, she knows the sky’s the limit.
“One of the best parts of working at Devonshire is that we are a family, and because of that, we are always supported in our goals to grow,” she says. “I’d love to go back to school and earn a business degree, and it means so much that Erickson Senior Living supports these goals. They want to see me, and all their team members, grow.”
Devonshire received such great feedback from employees that another Career Expo is scheduled for 2025. It will become an annual event, with changes based on employee feedback and new ideas to introduce.
