Devonshire Appoints New General Services Director

February 3, 2025

Devonshire, the Erickson Senior Living community at PGA National in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla., is pleased to announce that David Street has been promoted to director of general services!

Street joined Devonshire in 2018, following his retirement from the U.S. Army, where he served for 35 years.

He most recently served the community as assistant general services director. In this role, he was named one of Erickson Senior Living's 2023 Leaders of the Year for his contributions to the organization.

"David is a dedicated and effective leader with a talent for connecting with community members and staff," says Executive Director Brad Andrus. "We are thrilled to have him lead our talented general services team. In the seven years he has been at Devonshire, David has worked diligently to exceed community members' expectations every day."

In his new role as general services director, Street manages various departments and teams, ensuring the efficient operation of facilities and services within the community. His key responsibilities include facilities management, housekeeping, environmental services, security and safety, and transportation services.

True calling

After retiring from the Army, Street was not looking for a full-time position. However, that quickly changed when he was introduced to Erickson Senior Living's mission of helping people live better lives.

"The commitments that Erickson Senior Living makes to their residents really drew me to the company," Street says. "Then, once I visited Devonshire and saw what the community is all about, I discovered that everything aligned with my values."

He adds, "Typically, transitioning from the military to civilian life can be difficult. But joining a company that aligned itself with my values made the transition so much easier."

Street's experience as Devonshire's assistant general services director provided a rich training ground for his new position.

"As the assistant director of general services, I spent most of my time working directly with community members, learning what is important to them," he says. "And because general services works with every department within the community, I learned what was important to my coworkers. It was a great foundation for this new position."

He continues, "Now, I have a better understanding of what people need, what is important to them, and what they need to be successful."

Insightful leadership

Street believes that these strong relationships with residents and staff will help him succeed in his new role.

"Our team is committed to making sure each community member is able to live their best life," he says. "That goal motivates and drives my actions each day. General services is their one-stop shop. We ensure they live a worry-free lifestyle by taking care of their homes and the grounds--even providing security."

In fact, no job is too big or too small for the Devonshire general services team. Whether a community member needs a lightbulb replaced or a picture hung on the wall, the general services team always provides timely, friendly service.

"That starts with making sure we are all on the same page when it comes to providing our community members with everything they deserve," Street says.

"And maintaining open lines of communications is the best way to make that happen. I'm fortunate to lead a wonderful, strong team of managers, supervisors, and employees, all of whom look for opportunities to enhance lives. Each one of us understands how meaningful our work is, and there is nothing more rewarding than receiving a heartfelt thank you."

Family comes first

Recently, the general services team has been busier than usual, as Devonshire is experiencing a variety of exciting renovations to the community's 65,000-square-foot clubhouse, including a redesigned lounge area and refreshed entrances to all five community restaurants. Throughout all phases of the project, Street and his team work diligently to ensure that life continues uninterrupted for community members.

When he's not busy at Devonshire, Street enjoys spending time with family. He and his wife Cindy embark on regular trips to Tennessee to visit their daughter Jessica and their two granddaughters, Madison and Mia.

"We don't get to see them as often as we'd like, but when we do, we spoil them," he says, with a laugh.

At home, they love spending time with their grown son Michael and David's parents.

"I share what I've learned about retirement and aging with my parents," he says. "It ensures that I will be able to take better care of them. I've always had very strong family values, and I'm grateful to work at Devonshire where these values are shared."
