For Rand and Sally Peabody, Activities Abound at Brooksby Village

Rand and Sally Peabody are always on the go at Brooksby Village, the vibrant Erickson Senior Living community in Peabody, Mass.
With maintenance-free apartment homes, an array of activities, and industry-leading amenities, Brooksby residents enjoy a carefree lifestyle that affords them plenty of time to make friends, pursue their interests, and even pick up a new hobby.
Every day holds an opportunity to participate in something engaging, meaningful, or fun--or all of the above!
Carefree living
The Peabodys made the move to Brooksby from their four-level house in Medford, Mass., in 2022. "It was getting to be a bit untenable for both of us," Rand recalls.
The couple was drawn to the community's maintenance-free apartment homes and the monthly service package, which covers the cost of all utilities, appliance repair and replacement, a meal plan at on-site restaurants, and access to amenities like the fitness center.
"It was the right time," Sally adds. "There's so many benefits to living in a vibrant community where you don't have to worry about handling repairs. Things get done for you, so you have more time for all the activities!"
Fostering community
After settling into their apartment home, Rand and Sally didn't waste any time getting involved in all that Brooksby has to offer. On any given day, you'll find Sally attending one of many interest groups, teaching a Live and Learn class, or swimming in the pool at Brooksby's sparkling aquatics center.
"I tend to have at least one group meeting, lecture, or committee meeting per day--sometimes two!" she says. "Once my meeting is over, I get my swim in."
She is involved in the Protestant Faith Community Chapel Board on campus and volunteers as a liturgist. Other groups Sally is active with at Brooksby include Elders Against Gun Violence, Family of Women, and the environmental committee. And every Friday, she catches up with the current events group online.
"I think what I appreciate most about Brooksby is the dynamic people you can meet," Sally says. "We have met so many interesting people with impressive backgrounds and wonderful personalities. There is a remarkable sense of community here. That strikes me as very special."
Birds of a feather
Believe it or not, Rand's days are just as busy. You can find him attending monthly photo club gatherings, offering a Live and Learn class on literature, organizing golf outings for the Brooksby Golfers, or producing a new poetry show for TV 919, the community's in-house television station.
An ordained minister, Rand meets weekly with an ad hoc group of resident theological professionals as well.
"We usually go to lunch with somebody from that group," he notes. "Then, if we time it right, Sally and I go to an afternoon lecture. After that, we may have dinner on campus with friends."
Most of their afternoons and evenings are spent in one of Brooksby's five dining venues, including the recently updated Harvest and Cider House restaurants in Kingsbury Clubhouse. Brooksby's Theater at the Pond is also a focus for the creative couple, who are often busy performing in or preparing for a production.
"The days just evaporate. You turn around and it's Friday!" says Rand.
To that end, the couple consciously leaves Saturdays open to spend time with each other. And on Sundays, they take time to reflect in Brooksby's beautiful chapel before starting yet another bustling week.
'The right choice'
Rand and Sally credit Brooksby's carefree lifestyle and array of amenities for their robust calendar, complete with so many opportunities to make new friends and pursue their interests.
"Sally and I feel certain we made the right choice--on many a front," says Rand. "You can enjoy a vibrant social life to the degree you choose and real freedom from maintenance worries."
Resident Life Director Matthew Connery notes that Erickson Senior Living's mission of helping people live better lives is at the forefront of how his team and Brooksby operate.
"There's no department at Brooksby that isn't committed to supporting residents' well-being," says Connery. "Spiritual, physical, social, and emotional well-being are all represented by programs, groups, and activities on campus. From personal training and weekly religious services to countless paths for each resident to explore their passions, everything seniors need to live an active, engaging life is right here."
